Former TV star Duane 'Dog' Chapman will not be extradited to Mexico to
face a pending appeal of kidnapping charges against him.
The star of reality TV show Dog The Bounty Hunter had traveled with two
members of his crew, including his son, to Mexico to capture serial rapist
Andrew Luster - the heir to the Max Factor cosmetics empire - in Puerto
Vallarta on the Pacific coast in June 2003.
Chapman fell foul of the Mexican legal system by embarking on the
mission, because bounty hunting is deemed illegal in the Latin American
country.
Prosecutors in the country wanted to extradite Chapman on kidnapping
charges, but Judge Barry Kurren dismissed the move on Monday (05Nov07).
Chapman's lawyer James Quadra says, "I don't think they have any
regrets whatsoever in facilitating the capture of Mr. Luster, who is a
known and convicted rapist. Though this has been a difficult process, they
are proud of what they have done."
