Colombian pop superstar Shakira pulled out of making her movie debut in an
adaptation of her "dear friend" Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Love in
the Time of Cholera because the role meant she'd have to appear naked.
The modest singer claims scheduling conflicts resulted in her turning
down the part in the new film, which was released in America on Friday
(16Nov07), but producer Scott Steindorff has another tale to tell.
He reveals to the Los Angeles Times that Shakira refused to bare all in
her movie debut.
And now Shakira states her acting debut will be a carefully considered
decision: "The script, the character, the director, it all has to
come together to assure me that I'll be protected.
"I have a responsibility to my public, so I don't want to get into
something that could fail."
Shakira didn't completely snub the film adaptation - she wrote and
recorded the soundtrack for the movie.
