A&E NETWORK’S ACCLAIMED DOCUMENTARY SERIES INTERVENTION RETURNS
FOR A FOURTH SEASON MONDAY, DECEMBER 3 AT 9PM ET/PT
NEW YORK, NY, NOVEMBER 26, 2007 – A&E’s critically-acclaimed
documentary series INTERVENTION, which profiles people who are struggling
with addictions and the friends and family members who are seeking to help
them, will premiere its fourth season on Monday, December 3 at 9:00pm
ET/PT,
The Emmy-nominated and two-time Prism Award-winning series kicks off
its new season with a powerful one hour portrait of a young woman
suffering from the ravages of anorexia. Emily, a 26-year-old identical
twin, grew up in a highly competitive household. Her constant struggle to
compete with her sisters and live up to her parents’ high expectations
left her suffering from depression and low self-esteem. Despite winning
many academic and athletic honors – including a full athletic
scholarship to college – Emily always felt that she was never good
enough. After a horrible life changing ordeal in college, Emily turned to
dieting in an attempt to regain control over her body, her life and her
emotions. Seven years later, at 5'9", the former star athlete weighs
85 pounds and is slowly starving herself to death.
INTERVENTION is a powerful and gripping series in which people confront
their darkest demons and seek a route to redemption. The series profiles
people whose dependence on drugs and alcohol or other compulsive behavior
has brought them to a point of personal crisis and estranged them from
their friends and loved ones. Each episode ends with a surprise
intervention that is staged by the family and friends of the addict, and
which is conducted by one of four specialists: Jeff VanVonderen, Candy
Finningan, Ken Seeley and Tara Fields.
INTERVENTION raises awareness about the alternatives and treatment
options available to those who suffer from an addiction, and gives hope to
families who have nowhere left to turn. Out of the 80 interventions
featured since the series premiere in March of 2005, 78 individuals have
successfully entered treatment. The series has also forged a unique
alliance with The Partnership for a Drug Free America; co-hosting town
hall meetings throughout the year in communities devastated by drug and
alcohol addiction.
Robert Sharenow and Colleen Conway are the executive producers for
A&E Network. INTERVENTION is produced for A&E Network by GRB. Dan
Partland and Bryn Freedman are executive producers and Sam Mettler is
creator and executive producer for GRB.
