Ashlee Simpson's New Single 'Boyfriend' Now Radio's Best Friend Makes
Fast Rise on U.S. Playlists
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Ashlee Simpson's latest
single Boyfriend is emerging as the singer's fastest-rising hit to date.
Culled from her upcoming Geffen CD "I Am Me," the new single,
currently #26, is racing up the national Top 40 chart. Major market phones
have been particularly strong. "I Am Me" arrives in stores
October 18.
Meanwhile the video version of the track is the #1 most requested clip
on MTV and was added into MTV's most powerful rotation Big Ten, marking
Ashlee's quickest jump to #1 yet.
As a prelude to the coming tour, Ashlee performed on Saturday Night
Live on Oct. 8, singing "Boyfriend" and "Catch Me When I
Fall," a ballad she wrote after her controversial appearance on SNL a
year ago. In the weeks ahead, she is also scheduled to appear on The
Tonight Show, TRL and The Ellen De Generes Show.
For the new CD, Ashlee teamed up with producer John Shanks (Sheryl
Crow, Melissa Etheridge and Alanis Morissette) who also plays keyboards,
bass and guitars. Ashlee co-wrote all ten songs with Shanks and/or Kara
DioGuardi. Said Ashlee of the album, "The record is dark meets light
in a sense. I feel everyone has a dark side. This album is about finding
the positive, finding the lighter side as well."
Born in Waco, TX, Ashlee made inroads as an actress early on, appearing
on shows like 7th Heaven and Malcolm in the Middle, but she always longed
for a music career. The Ashlee Simpson Show on MTV chronicled the making
of her 2004 premiere solo album "Autobiography," which debuted
on the charts at #1. That album's hit single "Pieces of Me" hit
#1, helping push the CD to multi-platinum status.
