NBC ORDERS ADDITIONAL EPISODES OF SUSPENSEFUL ADVENTURE-DRAMA SERIES 'SURFACE'

BURBANK - October 17, 2005 - NBC has picked up additional episodes of its suspenseful new adventure-drama series "Surface" (Mondays, 8-9 p.m. ET), it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President, NBC Entertainment.

"The Pates are pulling off a mini-movie each week with a big concept and big production values," said Kevin Reilly, President, NBC Entertainment. "We're excited to see the audience continue to build."

"Surface" has averaged a 3.3 rating and a 9 share among adults 18-49 and 10.0 million viewers. Over the last three weeks of broadcasts, it's consistently ranked #2 among non-sports telecasts in its Monday time period in 18-49 and total viewers, with week-to-week increases each of the past two weeks. Between September 26 and October 10, "Surface" increased its 18-49 rating by 17 percent and its overall audience by 1.4 million viewers or 15 percent.

"Surface" is an expansive drama series that centers on the appearance of mysterious sea creatures in the deep ocean -- and tracks the lives of a variety of characters. They are: Laura Daughtery (Lake Bell, "Boston Legal"), the young marine biologist who discovers the secret; government scientist Dr. Aleksander Cirko (Rade Sherbedgia, "Snatch") and Pentagon official Davis Lee (Ian Anthony Dale, "Hawaii"), who both try to keep things under wraps; Richard Connelly (Jay R. Ferguson, "Judging Amy"), the Louisiana fisherman-insurance salesman who loses his brother in a suspicious diving accident; and Miles (Carter Jenkins, "The Bad News Bears"), the young boy who brings the creatures ashore.

The mystery ensnares a spectrum of people, including naval officers in the South Antarctic Sea, a family in Wilmington (North Carolina), scientists from the Oceanographic Institute in Monterey, and divers in the Gulf of Mexico. The seemingly innocent creatures they find are beautiful -- but they are full of surprises as viewers continue on a journey to discover what might be lurking in the sea.

"Surface" is from NBC Universal Television Studio and was created by Josh and Jonas Pate ("Dragnet"), who also serve as executive producers.
