Kate Winslet has threatened British journalists she will attack them if they ever report she is a bad mother again.

The actress was targeted by an unsympathetic press when she split from first husband Jim Threapleton in 2000 when their daughter MIA was still a baby.

She was accused of abandoning Mia and is still scarred by the experience.

Winslet says, "People can throw anything at me they want, and be as mean as they like, but don't mess with me as a mother, because I will get out a knife and come after you.

"It's really not fair. It's a vulnerable time. I was very young - I was 25.

It was really, really hard."
