Actress Scarlett Johansson has donated "a large sum" to a
poverty-stricken school in Sri Lanka after the children there left her
overcome with emotion during a recent visit.
The 22-year-old traveled to Sri Lanka and India with aid workers from
international charity group Oxfam - and admits the highlight was the time
she spent with kids at a Dalit school.
Johansson tells Planet Gossip, "The most gratifying opportunity
was visiting a Dalit school. The Dalit community is considered the lowest
status in the caste system, and children as young as four are working the
fields."
The actress' hand-out will financially support the school for the next
three years.
Meanwhile, the Lost In Translation star is currently planning a trip to
U.S.
Army bases overseas with the United Service Organization (USO).
Her publicist says, "It will be in early 2008 and for about a
week. I can't give out more than that for security reasons."
