Actress Eva Mendes has blasted U.S. TV network bosses - for ignoring her
new series concept about the family of a Mexican-American Los Angeles
mayor.
The Hitch star got involved with the series because it's something
she'd like to watch on TV, instead of all the reality shows and
supernatural dramas that have taken over.
She says, "When I see shows like All In The Family and Good Times
I think, 'Why don't we have shows like that anymore? They were talking
about social political issues that are still relevant today and they were
hysterical. Where are those shows today?'
"Right now, they all want the supernatural. Where are the thought
provoking shows? I produce to get stories told and there's a couple of
stories that I'm dying to tell that have just been hard to get off the
ground.
"I thought acting was difficult, try producing and selling a show.
I did pitch meetings for the first time and that was the worst week ever.
It's just awful to pitch something. It's very hard to keep your integrity
when you're asking someone to please buy this.
"The new show about a Los Angeles mayor, who lost his wife in a
car accident and so he moves his mother in with him and she becomes his
First Lady.
"All the networks passed. It's really a genius concept."
