Halle Berry's Things We Lost in the Fire premiere in London almost went up
in smoke - after a real-life blaze broke out just yards away from the
cinema.
Firefighters acted quickly to put out the fire, which broke out in a
nearby restaurant kitchen hours before the Oscar-winning actress and
co-star Benicio Del Toro were scheduled to hit the red carpet on Wednesday
(24Oct07).
Part of Leicester Square, where the premiere was held, was closed off
as fire crews worked to bring the blaze under control.
The drama served as a poignant reminder of the wildfires currently
engulfing Southern California, worryingly close to Berry's home.
The pregnant actress told reporters she was worried about her home and
couldn't wait to get back to Los Angeles and survey any damage.
She said, "It's terrible and frightening. My heart goes out to all
those people who have lost homes in the fires."
