Music mogul Simon Cowell has blasted Take That for attempting to
"spoil" Leona Lewis' return to the U.K. singles chart by
challenging her for the number one spot.
The X Factor winner went head-to-head with the reformed British boy band
in this week's (28Oct07) charts - but Lewis' Bleeding Love beat off
competition from the band and outsold the rest of the entries in the top
five put together, with 218,000 copies flying off the shelves since its
release last Monday (22Oct07).
And Cowell pities the Patience hit makers for losing out to Lewis.
He says, "Take That were used to spoiling the Leona party but it
backfired and I feel really disappointed for them. They should never have
been up against her in the first place.
"We announced our release date first and their camp must have
thought they could beat Leona. I imagine the band will be having words
with their label this week. It's a shame as they're really good friends of
mine."
