James Denton Desperate to Help Hurricane Victims  9/1/05

Desperate Housewives star James Denton has pledged to do all he can to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina because he could so easily have been among them.

The actor, who plays hunky handyman Mike Delfino on the hit show, hails from Tennessee, which just missed the worst of the weekend storms, but his heart goes out to those trying to pick up the pieces of their broken lives.

He says, "With a show like Desperate Housewives, one of the benefits is you get to turn it into charity things... and this one is staring us in the face because it's so immediate.

"My whole family is from the south. They're in Tennessee so all they got was a lot of heavy rain and floods, but everybody in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, we sent out some emails personally to see if there was anything we could do charitywise."

He's not the only celebrity doing what he can to help - pregnant pop star Britney Spears sent prayers out to the victims of the hurricane on her website and reassured her fans that all of her own family members were safe.
