September 27, 2005 - The first annual, official Reality TV Convention
was announced today by Reality TV Magazine and Music City Conventions.
Reality TV Con will allow reality TV fans to interact with their favorite
reality TV stars, apply for their favorite reality TV shows, and attend
panel discussions on reality TV. Reality TV Con will feature approximately
100 reality TV stars and hopes to attract between 10,000 to 20,000 reality
TV fans.
The Reality TV Convention (www.realitytvconvention.com
) is the brainchild of Marc Ballard, President of Music City Conventions,
and Joe Reality, Editor-In-Chief of Reality TV Magazine. Music City
Conventions has been putting on conventions throughout the Southeast for
the last ten years and is also responsible for Nashville's largest annual
comic book, horror, and sci-fi convention. Reality TV Magazine (www.realitytvmagazine.com
) is a popular online magazine reporting exclusively on reality TV shows
and reality TV stars.
"Shows like Amazing Race, American Idol, Big Brother, Survivor,
and The Apprentice have developed large, loyal fan followings. Our goal is
to give reality TV fans a convention to call their own. Why should
Trekkies have all the fun?" said Marc Ballard. "Every time that
a reality TV show flops, the end of the reality TV genre is predicted, but
reality TV isn't going away. Just look at what is occurring with blogging
and podcasting. Everyday people are taking a larger role in shaping news
and entertainment. I think we've only seen the tip of the iceberg of what
the reality TV medium has to offer," said Joe Reality.
Television networks, radio stations, magazines, websites, and record
labels are among those being invited to exhibit at the event. "We've
already had a lot of great sponsors sign on, and the feedback we've gotten
from the reality TV stars themselves has been overwhelmingly
enthusiastic," said Marc Ballard. "We really want this
convention to be about the reality TV fans, and we hope to involve several
of the reality TV fan websites that are an important part of shaping,
defining, and generating buzz about the medium. We want this to be a fun
and memorable event for reality TV fans," said Joe Reality.
Reality TV Convention is scheduled to be held in Nashville, Tennessee
on Saturday, June 3, 2006 and Sunday, June 4, 2006. More information about
the convention can be found on the official Reality TV Convention website
located at www.realitytvconvention.com.
