Biggest Loser Club, the Companion Subscription Web Site to the Hit NBC
Primetime Reality Series, "The Biggest Loser," Introduces More
Social Networking Capabilities, More Meal Planning Features, More Workouts
and Fitness Tools and Hundreds of New Recipes This Season
"The Biggest Loser" Premieres September 11 on NBC
NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 09/11/07 -- NBC, Rodale Inc., and
Reveille Productions announced today enhancements to The Biggest Loser
Club (www.biggestloserclub.com),
the popular companion subscription Web site to the hit series, "The
Biggest Loser." Season 4 of NBC's "The Biggest Loser"
premieres on September 11 on NBC, at 8:00pm EDT.
Alison Sweeney ("Days of Our Lives") joins the show to host
the fourth season of the series, which challenges and encourages
overweight contestants to shed pounds in a safe and recommended manner
through comprehensive diet and exercise as they compete for a grand prize
of $250,000. The unscripted and life-altering one-hour reality series
gathers contestants from across the country to face real-life temptations,
while being provided with approved weight-loss skills and resources in an
effort to help them transform their bodies, health -- and ultimately --
their lives.
The Biggest Loser Club currently features customized meal and exercise
plans based on individual nutritional and fitness needs. It offers a
strong sense of community and support to its members, with hundreds of
recipes, automatic shopping lists, and tools to keep members on track.
The site will rollout new features and social networking components
throughout September in conjunction with the launch of season 4. This
season, all show contestants and trainers will have their own biographical
pages and Buddy networks on the site, along with testimonials, polls,
videos, and a "Casts from the Past" section.
New social networking features on the site will allow members to choose
from an array of ways to participate, including:
-- Starting a Weight Loss Challenge Team: Members can form one team
with Buddies and reach out to another Team to Challenge; or, create
multiple teams of Buddies and have teams compete against one another;
-- Joining a Weight Loss Challenge Team: can search for Teams that are
accepting new members, and reach out to join the team;
-- Starting a Weight Loss Buddy Challenge: Members can invite Buddies
to go head-to-head in an individual-based weight loss Challenge;
-- Joining a Weight Loss Challenge: Members are able to accept an
invite from a Buddy to participate in an individual-based weight loss
Challenge.
All Challenge Teams will have special home and profile pages, and Buddy
Challenges will have home pages that include a leader board, progress
tracking and reporting, challenge participants and individual results. In
addition, members can search for and find teams based criteria such as
location, interests, gender, weigh loss goals, and number of team members.
The teams and challenges can be set with a public or private option. The
show 'Teams' will be represented on the site, and a Challenge will be set
up to mirror what's happening on the show each week. However, a member can
only be on one team and participate in one Challenge. Each week, an Online
Club Editor will highlight a new "Challenge Team of the Week."
The Web site's community and social networking features will allow
members to create personal home pages and profiles; search for member home
pages and profiles based on search and browse criteria, such as location,
interests, gender and weigh loss goals. Members can invite one another to
be "Buddies," and create and maintain a public or private
network of Buddies. Personal home pages will include blogging
capabilities, and if public, other members will be able to
"comment" on the member's personal blogs.
In addition to displaying existing meal plans, the food and nutritional
section will feature hundreds of new meal and food options, and 150 new
recipes to choose from. The site will allow members to add foods to a log,
or enter their own foods if they deviated from the recommended plan. The
food log will include nutrition tracking so members can compare
"recommended" calories and nutritional intake to
"actual" calories. Members will be able to create favorite meal
and food lists, as well as set meals to display in the food log everyday,
since many people eat the same foods each day.
In the exercise section, members will be given prescribed workouts
everyday, with the option to swap out exercises for other choices in the
new exercise library. Alternatively, they can enter their own exercise
program, or choose from their own list of favorite exercises. Members can
progress through different phases and levels of strength exercises
depending on their preferences and skill level, while calculating and
tracking calories burned through cardio exercises against
"actual" versus "goal" benchmarks.
In late September, the site will offer incentives encouraging members
to invite family and friends to join the Club. It will also feature a new
tour, and an in-depth tutorial that covers all aspects of online program,
and a new help section.
"The Biggest Loser" provides the 18 strong-willed, yet
hopeful, contestants with challenges, temptations, weigh-ins and
eliminations until the final contestant remains to claim the title of
"the biggest loser." Each team works out under the supervision
of professional trainers Bob Harper, Kim Lyons and Jillian Michaels.
The series has become a worldwide hit airing in 75 countries and
produced in 25 countries. It has also produced two New York Times
best-selling books and workout DVDs, both the #1 selling fitness videos of
2006 and 2007.
"The Biggest Loser" is a production of Reveille LLC, 25/7
Productions and 3 Ball Productions. Ben Silverman (NBC's "The
Office," "Ugly Betty"), Dave Broome ("Tsunami Aid: A
Concert of Hope," "Radio Music Awards"), JD Roth
("Unanimous," "Beauty and the Geek"), Todd A. Nelson
("Unanimous," "Beauty and the Geek") and Mark Koops
("Blow Out," "The Restaurant") serve as executive
producers.
