The Harry Potter films have woven its magic on the box office - it's
the most successful movie series ever.
The fantasy franchise has beaten spy franchise James Bond to the title,
after it surpassed the $4.4 billion made from the action thriller's 22
outings.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone came out in 2001, and its
subsequent four sequels have taken $4.5 billion around the world.
The six Star Wars films are in third place with takings of $4 billion.
Warner Bros' domestic distribution president Dan Fellman says, "It
is a thrill to see the Harry Potter franchise reach this unparalleled
mark.
"With two movies yet to come, it is amazing to think what heights
the franchise could reach by the end of the decade."
The next installment of the boy wizard series, Harry Potter and the
Half-Blood Prince is due out in 2008.
